Wichita Falls police arrested an 18-year-old man on a murder charge in connection with the May 10 shooting death of Shedarius Cochran, 32, at a local bar, according to the Wichita Falls Police Department.
Ray Dale Kelley Jr. of Wichita Falls was being held Friday morning in the Wichita County Jail on a $1 million bond, according to online jail records.
Sgt. Jacob Vasquez of the Wichita Falls Police Department said officers were dispatched to Stoneridge Apartments at 500 Fillmore Street about 10:45 p.m. Thursday and found Kelley involved in a disturbance with his father. Officers arrested him on the outstanding murder warrant without incident, Vasquez said. He was booked into the county jail early Friday, according to online records.
Cochran was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the Backend bar at 2509 Sheppard Access Road shortly after 4 a.m. May 10, according to a police media release. He died a short time later at United Regional Health Care System.
Court documents detail allegations
An arrest warrant affidavit filed in the case states police were notified of a large fight at the bar and that shots had been fired with at least one person hit. When officers arrived, they found Cochran lying in the parking lot with wounds to his upper torso and legs.
According to the affidavit, witnesses told police there had been several altercations in the parking lot involving a group of males. Detectives recovered five spent .40-caliber bullet casings at the scene.
The affidavit also references surveillance video, which the document states shows Cochran walking with his hands raised at his sides as a group of people approach him. Five gunshots are heard on the video and Cochran falls to the ground as the individuals following him scatter, according to the affidavit.
Murder is a first-degree felony in Texas, punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison.
