A Wichita County jury on Thursday found Jakob Joel Blankenship, 23, of Wichita Falls guilty of murder in the death of 20-year-old Zoe Brewer, according to online court records. Murder is a first-degree felony in Texas, carrying a penalty of 5 to 99 years or life in prison. The same jury will determine the sentence during the punishment phase of the trial in 78th District Court.

Background

According to court records, a Wichita County grand jury indicted Blankenship in November 2022 on allegations that he sold a fatal dose of fentanyl to Brewer. Investigators say Brewer died on April 20, 2022.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, Wichita Falls police identified Blankenship on home video from April 20, 2022 selling a fentanyl-laced pill to the 20-year-old woman, who was found dead a short time later.

Wichita County Jail records show Blankenship was booked into jail on August 29, 2022, and was released on surety bonds on October 27, 2025.
