A fatal 18-wheeler crash occurred outside Electra on Thursday, May 14, 2026, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS officials said the wreck happened around 1:15 p.m. on Highway 287 at FM 2384, east of Electra. The driver of the 18-wheeler did not survive.
Preliminary report
According to a preliminary report from Texas DPS, the vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. 287 while towing a semi-trailer when it left the left side of the roadway. The vehicle traveled into the center median and through the cable barrier.
As it entered the northbound lane of U.S. 287, the vehicle rolled onto its left side and came to rest against the guardrail. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
DPS identified the driver as Tai D. Nguyen, 43, of Houston.
Traffic was still at a standstill around 2:50 p.m. in the northbound lanes of U.S. 287 near Electra.
Electra Fire, Electra EMS, DPS, the Wichita County Sheriff's Office and TxDOT responded to the scene, according to Texoma's Homepage. The outlet reported that the investigation is ongoing.
