The Wichita Falls Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Denzil Street on Friday morning, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage. No injuries were reported, officials said.
According to a news release from the department, crews were dispatched to the 2500 block of Denzil Street at 8:14 a.m. on April 24 for a reported structure fire. Firefighters arriving on scene found fire and smoke coming from a single-story home.
Crews located the source of the fire in the living room and brought it under control in approximately five minutes. A search of the residence confirmed it was vacant at the time, the release said.
Firefighters disconnected the electric meter as a precaution, and Oncor was called to collect the meter and disconnect the power line.
The owner of the home was on scene when units arrived and told firefighters the property was being used primarily for storage and had no active utilities, according to the release.
Damage to the structure and its contents was estimated at $20,000. No injuries were reported and the Red Cross was not requested to the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
