The two candidates in the Wichita County Judge runoff, Mark Dora and Rick Hatcher, appeared in a live KFDX-hosted debate ahead of the election, with both fielding questions on economic growth, property taxes, county leadership, and large-scale projects such as solar farms and data centers.
The format featured two-minute opening statements, 90-second responses, 60-second rebuttals, and 90-second closing statements, with a bell signaling when time expired.
Dora's pitch
Dora pointed to his background in public service, emergency response, and business as preparation for the role.
"I've spent my career working for this moment in different areas," Dora said. "I've been in private business, I've worked on the fire department, I worked with Texas Task Force One. I'm a paramedic. I bring a broad perspective."
On future development, Dora said growth should be balanced with protecting homeowners and property values.
Hatcher's pitch
Hatcher emphasized local ties and community involvement, framing the office as service-oriented.
"As the county's head cheerleader, I want us all to thrive," Hatcher said. "County government is not only government by the people and government for the people, it's government among the people."
Hatcher said economic development is important but argued the county must ensure local benefit from large projects.
Both candidates also discussed property taxes and leadership style during the debate.
