A burst PVC pipe inside the Wichita County Courthouse Annex caused roughly $40,000 in plumbing damage last week, county commissioners said.
The failure happened while the first-floor women's restroom in the annex was closed for renovation, county officials said. Foot traffic was rerouted to the east side of the building, putting added stress on an older pipe system. Officials said the pipe broke and sent water into a nearby drug-testing room.
Repairs to the line were completed and the restrooms have reopened as of Tuesday, officials said.
Commissioners said the $40,000 figure covers only the plumbing portion of the repairs in precinct one, and that flooring and related work will add to the total.
The county has not provided an estimated completion date for the broader renovation project.
