Electra voters will help choose the city's next mayor in the uniform election scheduled for Saturday, May 2. According to a News Channel 6 report, the race is between candidates Anthony McCormick and Christopher Graham.
In an interview with the station, McCormick said his top priority is addressing the city's aging infrastructure. "Our infrastructure is our biggest problem here in Electra. Our streets are notoriously bad, and we need to get that worked on," McCormick said.
McCormick said he is approaching the race from the perspective of a sitting elected official as well as a citizen. "I am an elected official currently, and I am running for office; however, first off, I am a citizen," McCormick said. He added that he believes the city should review its existing equipment, sell off what is not needed, and reinvest the proceeds into repairs and contracts.
McCormick said he favors a step-by-step approach to drainage and road repair work and views the role primarily as service-oriented. "I'm not trying to get my name on a plaque; I'm trying to help advance the city and preserve it," McCormick said.
News Channel 6's report focused on McCormick's candidacy. Christopher Graham's positions were not included in the same segment. Polls open Saturday for the uniform election.
