Sheriffs from across North Central Texas met April 15 to form the North Central Texas Sheriff’s Coalition, a new group aimed at strengthening communication and coordination among rural law enforcement agencies.
Why the coalition formed
Archer County Sheriff Jack Curd said issues facing smaller counties do not always receive the same attention as border and urban counties.
Jack County Sheriff T-Bob Hauger, who helped organize the group, said smaller counties often have limited influence on their own. “We’re really a small fish in a big sea,” Hauger said. “If we could pull some of these sheriffs together, we’d go from being a small place to a lot bigger fish.”
What the group plans to do
The coalition intends to provide a unified voice when addressing lawmakers in Austin and to share ideas across counties. Curd said rural sheriffs share many of the same challenges as their urban counterparts despite differences in size and resources.
Leaders said the coalition is in its early stages, with plans to continue meeting and collaborating.
