A probable cause affidavit filed in Wichita County provides new details in a fatal crash that killed a 13-year-old in Iowa Park early Saturday morning.
According to the affidavit, Iowa Park police responded just before 4:30 a.m. on April 18 to the 500 block of West Highway for a vehicle crash. Officers arrived to find a white Chevy pickup in a ditch facing west, with two males standing nearby.
Driver’s statements
The affidavit identifies the driver as Andrew Tellez. It states Tellez told officers he had been driving home from a club on Seymour Highway and did not remember leaving. He said the last thing he remembered was crashing the pickup. Officers reported smelling alcohol, and according to the affidavit Tellez admitted to drinking.
Witnesses reported hearing screeching tires from sudden braking. One said they saw a body lying in the road. Iowa Park Police Chief Steve Davis confirmed the 13-year-old died as a result of the crash.
Charges and bond
Tellez is charged with intoxication manslaughter. At the time of publication, he was held in the Wichita County Jail on a $100,000 bond. All individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
