Burkburnett Independent School District voters will decide on two separate bond propositions totaling $28.8 million in the May 2 election.

Proposition A — $20.8 million

Proposition A covers district-wide upgrades. A central element is a full renovation of the Career and Technical Education wing at Burkburnett High School. It also includes improvements to auditoriums and cafeterias at Evans and John Tower elementary schools, renovated restrooms, new playground shade structures, parking upgrades, and new student transportation vehicles.

School board President Keith Myers said current CTE classrooms no longer meet student needs and cited plans for new fire alarm systems and updated security cameras with AI-enhanced monitoring.

Proposition B — $8 million

Proposition B would fund a new multi-purpose indoor activity center. District leaders said the facility would serve a range of programs including band, cheer, JROTC, and indoor field days in addition to athletics.

Cost to taxpayers

Myers said community feedback has been generally positive, and that the timing of the bond could allow for improvements while still resulting in a net decrease in the tax rate.

Voting details

The two propositions appear on the ballot separately. Early voting runs through April 28. Election Day is May 2. Voters can cast ballots at the Precinct 2 Building on West College Street or at John Tower Elementary School.
