The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank announced on Thursday that it has launched a fundraising campaign to support construction of a new, larger facility, the organization said in a news release reported by Texoma's Homepage.

According to the release, the food bank's current facility serves about 28,000 people, leaving roughly 14,000 of the 42,000 individuals it identifies as facing hunger across its service area underserved.

The food bank serves twelve North Texas counties: Archer, Baylor, Clay, Foard, Haskell, Jack, Knox, Montague, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger and Young. The organization said the region has the 15th-highest hunger rate in the nation.

The food bank, known as WFAFB, said the planned facility is intended to expand capacity for food storage and distribution. The campaign is being branded as a fundraising drive for a new building named in honor of a local donor; further details on naming, total cost and timeline were not specified in the release as reported.

How the food bank operates

WFAFB distributes food through partner agencies, including charitable organizations and feeding programs across its 12-county service area, according to the food bank.

The organization has not yet released a public donation page link in the announcement covered by Texoma's Homepage; readers seeking more information can visit the food bank's website at wfafb.org.
