Midwestern State University Texas on April 29 held a grand opening for new student success and military education centers, according to university officials. The university said the centers are designed to consolidate academic, financial-aid and advising services in a single location for students.

MSU Texas President Stacia "Stacy" Haynie said the centers are intended to bring multiple support services under one roof. "When we started the conversations with the base, they said our students don't have time to go to five different offices," Haynie said. "We thought no student does, so we're going to bring all of that in one space for our students."

According to Haynie, the military education center will provide advisors, academic counselors, financial aid specialists and scholarship funding for active-duty military members and their dependents. She said funding for the centers came from the MSU Legislature and from community contributions.

Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Marcy Brown Marsden said the centers added more than 20 jobs to the campus and will be open to all students, not only those affiliated with the military. Marsden said the university expects the centers to be fully ready by summer.
